I think when you go for something big you have to have the confidence from within to be able to make it happen. And being an athlete at this level (for me it’s pretty high since I was never supposed to be here), building confidence is just as important as building fitness.
For my good races this year, I was stressed yet calm and confident in myself.
For Chicago and European 70.3 championship this year where it didn’t go well, all I was thinking Before the race was “don’t fuck this up” and. “I’m not sure if I can do this but I’ll try”
That’s very different from St George and Oceanside this year where my mind was thinking “I’m stressed as fuck but I know I can do this, let’s go and kill some bitches”
You can be in the best shape of your life but it’s a fine line in your mind between not letting your body do what it can do and suppressing it from it’s true potential.
I can blame it on the weather and I can blame it on outside pressure. But ultimately I just need to be stronger in the head.
